Finding life purpose takes time.

But when you get there, it feels pretty good.

Since staring this blog three years ago, I feel I have found my purpose.

It has taken self-reflection, a little (and sometimes a lot of) growth, some wrong turns, and of course, a lot of time.

Here are my reasons why it rocks to be purposeful with your life.

1. Life is incredibly satisfying.

Pretty much everything you do feels like it has meaning.

And when you do meaningful things, you feel really good about yourself.

2. You’re not leaving your life to chance.

You set the goals and rules.

You’re not being led somewhere you may or may not want to go.

You are the driver and the co-pilot.

You decide.

You’re not floating with the tide anymore.

3. You become grateful for what you have.

When you are purposeful with your life, you count your blessings and express gratitude for the things you have around you: material, friendships, family.

4. It’s easier to make decisions.

Does this thing, activity, or behaviour align with your purpose?

If yes, then fabulous, your choice is clear.

If no, then fabulous, your choice is clear.

5. You will know if you’re on track with your life or if you’re off track.

If you’re on track, you have lots of reasons to celebrate.

If you’re off track, you know what it will take to get back on track and you can take steps to get there.

Another reason to celebrate.

6. You have confidence.

When you’re not sure what you want to do with your life, those feelings can leach into other areas of your life.

When you are sure, it infuses every part of you.

7. You have clarity.

No more wishy washy should you do this or that with your life.

You’ve made your choice and you’re being intentional about it.

8. You can be in the present moment more.

No more distracting daydreaming about “What am I doing in this job? What’s the point of this meeting? What do I want to do with my life?”

When those big questions aren’t on your mind, you can focus on the present, and actually be present.

You can give people your full attention.

You can give your husband or wife your full attention.

You can give your child or children your full attention.

You can give the food you eat your full attention.

You can give your life your full attention.

9. You can turn off the auto pilot.

Ever watched the Adam Sandler movie, Click?

It’s about a guy who chooses to mute or fast forward through unappealing moments of his life with a magical remote control.

Before he knows it, the remote has whizzed him through his life and he gets to the end conscious of only little tiny flashes of it with an ex-wife and family that can’t stand him.

You don’t want to end up at the end of your life like this guy wishing that he’d actually been present for his life.

You have the power to change all of that now by becoming purposeful and present in the now.

10. No more, “When I do/have this, I will be happy.”

Because you are being purposeful with your life every day, you can receive great joy in knowing that you’re making your dreams and your purpose a reality every single day.

It’s a remarkable feeling.
